An Open Letter to Carmelo Anthony
There is so much going on in the world of New York Knicks basketball since you have arrived here. You brought a spark with you to New York, the same spark that Amar’e Stoudemire brought here when he signed in New York in 2010. It was that spark that made the Knicks fans rise again. And for that, we will be forever thankful to you.
But let’s be honest Melo, it’s now 2017. You have been a New York Knickerbocker since the 2010-11 season and the organization is nowhere near being a winner, in fact, the team is in the exact same spot for the 2016-17 season than it was during your debut campaign in New York.
No one and I truly mean this, no one has defended you more than I have Melo. I have always believed you were one of the superstars of the NBA. A guy that can score at will, and could be the missing piece of a championship contender. Unfortunately, you weren’t that missing piece for New York, because they have a few vacant spots still left open in order to be a championship contender.
Brent Barry hit the nail on the head when he said you should waive your No Trade Clause and get out of New York. If not for the fact that you could help the Knicks more by leaving right now, but man you deserve to win! Go to a team where you will actually have a shot at winning. New York CANNOT be more important to you than winning a championship. The whole reason we are all athletes is to win. I will tell you this, though, by staying in New York and letting this team consistently be a loser, the only thing you will win here is the disdain of Knicks fans.
The Knicks need to rebuild this team around Kristaps Porzingis, who really is the heart and soul of this team now. We all know that, and so do you.
So please Melo, do the Knicks organization a favor, do the Knicks fans a favor and PLEASE, do yourself a huge favor and waive your No Trade Clause and head for greener pastures. You deserve it, and so does the fan base you say you love so much.
Let the organization use that money to finally find themselves a legit point guard, a shooting guard, a center and a bench, because without those, this organization will never, ever win an NBA Championship. Without those pieces, YOU will never win an NBA Championship in New York. Why be a big part of this dysfunction with this team?
Now, I am not sure at this point what kind of value you will bring in a trade or where you can go to fit in (I predict the Houston Rockets or Los Angeles Clippers to be fair) but you will bring a value this team desperately needs. You have been a Knick for a while now, and you still have people here in New York who love you, I am still a fan of yours and will forever be a fan of yours and if you go off to win a championship elsewhere, I will be very happy for you.
Let your fans be happy for you Melo.
It’s a win-win-win situation here. You get to head to a championship contender. The New York Knicks organization can FINALLY rebuild. And your fans can feel good about you finally getting what you and this team deserves.
With the kindest regards,
One of your few loyal fans remaining in New York
