Indy Wrestling Corner: A Feud For All Time
One of the most important parts of a wrestling show is the feud. Feuds tell a story, and the great feuds can keep fans engaged for months. On the indie wrestling scene it’s not uncommon to see feuds last much longer than ones in the bigger companies, and it very common to see them across multiple feds. In this installment of Indie Wrestling Corner: A Feud For All Time, I take a look at one of the most entertaining Tag Team feuds in the Mid-West and West Coast indie scene.
When I first got into Paragon Pro Wrestling last year, one of their main feuds was over their Tag Team Title. At that time the team of Hammerstone and Chamberlain held the titles and they were feuding with The Whirlwind Gentlemen (Jack Manley and Remy Marcel). The division wasn’t that big, so they had multiple matches over the belts. In looking to bolster their division, and the shake things up, PPW looked to their sister company, West Coast Wrestling Connection, and other west coast companies. One of the teams the decided to bring in was The Bonu$ Boyz comprised of Clutch Kucera and Sugar Brown.
To look at this team, Clutch a football player and Sugar Brown a boxer, you might not think much of them. They seemed a bit silly in their presentation, but once they entered the squared circle they showed that the phrase, “Never judge a book by it’s cover”, was totally true. Both guys could go in the ring. They had some sweet double team moves and worked really well with each other. It was only natural that they would feud with the Gents, and their matches were highly entertaining. One of the great things about working indies in the same area is that you can work with the same people and have chemistry that grows over time. The Gents and Boyz brought their feud to multiple feds, and PPW fans were lucky enough to witness it.
Later in 2016 PPW took a hiatus, but the feud between the Boyz and Gents didn’t rest. The Gents held multiple Tag Titles at the same time, including the FLW and FSW belts. On December 9 of last year, one of the most shocking incidents in FLW history took place. Commissioner Barclay visited Future Stars of Wrestling to announce that then FLW Tag Champs, The Whirlwind Gentlemen would be defending the titles in an FSW ring, and there was an open challenge. Later in the show, The Bonu$ Boyz decided to take the Gents up on their challenge, and with help from their manager extraordinaire Sylvester J. Fox, the Boyz were able to take out the Gents to become FLW Tag Team Champions.
The feud didn’t stop there as Commissioner Barclay suspended Sly Fox for his interference, meaning that at the next FLW event the Boyz would be on their own. That didn’t matter as Fox bought a ticket for the event, and instead of taking care of business in the ring, The Gents tried to take care of Fox on the outside.
As of this writing, FLW was on a hiatus, but will return in April. The Bonu$ Boyz still hold the straps, but The Whirlwind Gentlemen look to take back what they believe is rightfully theirs. This is a feud that doesn’t look like it will end any time soon, but for the fan’s sake, we can all be happy about that. Along with FLW and FSW, the Boyz are currently in West Coast Wrestling Connection, where they hold the Tag belts, and the Gents will be having a #1 Contenders Match against The Heavenly Bodies to see who will face the Boyz next. If we’re all lucky enough, the Gents will take care of business, and the 2 teams can add WCWC to their list of companies they currently feud in.
Besides wrestling, I'm a big fan of horror movies, film noir, heavy metal, and 80s music. I like other genres, but those are my go to for when I want to have a good time.
I'm also a big sports fan, rooting for the Mets, LA Dodgers, NY Rangers, NY Giants, Knicks, and Dallas Mavs.
I've been growing my epic beard since December 2014 and I don't intend to stop any time soon.
